Laws to Help Veterans

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich signed into law five bills designed to benefit soldiers and veterans.

One bill would increase property tax exemptions for disabled veterans from $58,000 to $70,000. The second would give Illinois National Guardsmen and reservists an additional 180 days from the time they return to pay property taxes incurred during active duty. Two other bills reduce fees for gold star license plates and for military to hunt, fish and camp at state parks. The last bill would let children of soldiers called to service to stay in their same school district without having to pay out-of-district tuition if they have to move.
