The fire happened around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Sonoco Paper Mill on Hawick and Prairie Street in Rockton. Firefighters say about 40 paper bales behind the building caught on fire and spread quickly. Crews say the wind and the humidity were a concern but they were able to contain the fire and its large flames. Damage at the Paper Mill is unknown at this point, however, a few firefighters suffered slight dehydration.
Different fire crews from around the Stateline assisted in putting out the Paper Mill fire.
Firefighters used rotating teams at opposite ends of the facility to bring the blaze down.
