City officials say 47 full- and part-time jobs will be cut in an effort to close a $7.5 million gap in the 2003 general fund budget.
Twenty-nine workers will be laid off. The other 18 cuts will come through attrition or by leaving vacant positions unfilled.
The city of Rockford employs about 1,200 people.
