Android Industries Expands

The paint hasn't even dried on their newly constructed walls, but a local manufacturing company is already expanding. The Chrysler supplier plans to add more than 100 jobs on top of the 200 they were already creating in the stateline.

Before the dust could even settle on construction of their new building, Android Industries is already tearing down walls and adding an extra 100,000 square feet to their facility.

"Obviously we came optimistic and we built our building so it could be readily expanded, but we didn't expect it this soon," says plant manager Paul Harter.

Android was already planning to supply power modules for engine and transmission assembly at the Belvidere Chrysler plant, but now they'll also supply instrument panels. Basically, the entire dash assembly for the new car.

"It's very exciting, it really is. In fact, the other day I hopped in my truck and drove around the other corner of the plant and looked at what we were doing, and this is just a very cool thing to be a part of," says Harter.

And now even more people will be able to be a part of the Android team. Instead of looking to hire 200 new workers, Android now needs more than 300 employees.

"We may have a hiring fair later in September, but our primary staff up is going to happen in October and November with plans to go with our first full shift at the beginning of 2006," adds Harter.

Currently, Android is hiring through Kelly Services out of Rockford. If you're interested in learning more about Android's job availabilities, the phone number is 399-5000.
