The American Lung Association states, "Smoking is responsible for an estimated one in five U.S. deaths and costs the U.S. over $150 billion each year in health care costs and lost productivity."
Since the death of ABC news anchorman Peter Jennings many smokers took his death as a wake-up call. In Rockford, the American Lung Association has seen a jump in smokers trying to quite. Membership in the American Lung Associations online plan to stop smoking has more than doubled in just the last three days. The program is called Freedom from Smoking and it's a multi-step program to help beat the addiction.
You can sign up to stop smoking online at www.lungusa.org or by calling a toll-free number at 1-800-lungusa.
