Sixteen years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that flag burning was a form of protected speech, an expression of freedom. But it still remains a very controversial topic.
Flags from all over the United States were properly destroyed Saturday at Sinnissippi Park. A group of Boy Scouts performed the ceremony to retire over 55,000. The flags are collected throughout the year, folded and the destroyed by burning.
This is the 9th year the troops has taken part in this symbolic expression.
