Breastfeeding Walk

By  |

15 years ago a declaration was signed to outline how governments and medical institutions can help promote breastfeeding. Just this past week, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich signed legislation to allow nursing mothers to be exempt from jury duty.

Saturday, our local La Leche League celebrated World Breastfeeding Week with a ceremonial walk and potluck. The La Leche League International mission is: To help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

By putting one foot in front of the other many of these mothers also want to increase awareness.

There is a 24-hour hotline number that mother's can use at no charge. You can contact a Leader in your area or call La Leche League at 847-519-7730. In the United States you can call toll free 800-LALECHE. If your question is a medical emergency for the mother or baby, please contact your health care provider IMMEDIATELY, or go to the nearest emergency room without delay.
