A preliminary settlement has been reached in a class-action lawsuit against Rockford Health System.
The suit alleges that Rockford Health System, which operates Rockford Memorial Hospital and Rockford Clinic, over-billed thousands of patients between 1994 and 2001. As many as 10,000 patients could be eligible for reimbursements of up to $500,000 each.
The Rockford Health System says the over-billing was the fault of an outside company that handled its patient accounts. The system is now handling its own billing operations. A court hearing on this proposed settlement is scheduled for Feb. 25.
