City leaders are quickly trying to finalize the Lowe's deal by the end of the summer.
Rockford's city administrator, Jim Ryan, says the city is in serious talks with Lowe's to land the regional distribution center, but says hurdles still remain..
The center still needs to be approved by the codes and regulations committee, and then by the full City Council. However, leaders are excited about the Lowe's opportunity, and the good paying, full-time jobs that go with it.
"They would be jobs that pay very competitive wages with good benefits and would also work well with our job and labor force that have in Rockford. It's a perfect match," Ryan said.
Lowe's last set up a regional distribution center in Plainfield, Connecticut. There are 11 regional distribution centers in the United States.
