The U.S. House of Representatives will vote this afternoon on legislation expressing condolences, extending prayers, commending emergency responders, and honoring the victims of the tragic shooting that claimed five students and injured many more at Northern Illinois University Feb. 14.

H. Res. 1007, sponsored by U.S. Reps. Don Manzullo (R-IL) and the entire Illinois Congressional Delegation, will be considered on the floor of the House later this afternoon. Floor debate is expected to begin around 12:30 p.m. CT and can be viewed live on C-SPAN. The legislation is a companion bill to a Senate resolution authored by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) that passed the Senate last week.

“All of us in northern Illinois were devastated by this tragedy that took much too soon the lives of students Gayle Dubowski, Catalina Garcia, Julianna Gehant, Ryanne Mace, and Daniel Parmenter, and left many others with physical and mental injuries that will take years if ever to heal,” Manzullo said. “With this resolution, the U.S. House honors the victims, prays for the injured, commends the emergency and community response, and praises students and faculty at Northern Illinois University for moving ‘forward, together forward’ in a brave effort to persevere through tragedy.”
