A later morning wreck involving a truck vs. motorcycle killed two at the intersection of Route 11 and Hanover Road.
Rock County sheriff investigators indicate a truck was crossing Hwy. 11 at Hanover Road after stopping at the stop sign. The truck was hit by a southbound motorcycle in the southbound lane of Hwy. 11.
After impact, the motorcycle and motorcycle operator came to rest inside the cab of the pickup truck. The driver was the sole occupant of the truck. The driver of the truck and the motorcycle operator were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was a 23-year-old female from Janesville. The motorcycle operator was a 20-year-old male, also from Janesville. Names are being held pending notification of next of kin.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Accident Reconstruction Personnel from the Wisconsin State Patrol. Initial indications are the truck failed to yield from the stop sign. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident.
Speed is considered a factor in this accident. The motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet. It is unknown if a seat belt was used by the truck operator.
We anticipate releasing the operators’ names at 7 a.m. on June 24, 2005.
