Janesville GM Plant Trying to Keep Positive in Light of Closing

GM Chairman and Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said Tuesday the company plans to eliminate 25,000 manufacturing jobs by 2008 to help restore profitability.

Wagoner didn't mention specific plants, but an analyst says the most likely targets are several older plants, like the 86-year-old one in Janesville.

Mike Sheridan of United Auto Workers Local 95, says the 3,900 employees are doing the right things to secure their future.

GM said last year the Janesville plant would be the lead producer of its new sport utility vehicles. The automaker is working on a 175 million investment to retool the local plant for the new product.
