Tanner Family Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a day many stateline family's get together with loved ones and share a day filled with football and the traditional holiday feast, but thanksgiving is also a day to be grateful. For one Rockford family this thanksgiving has them feeling especially blessed.

Five months ago 14-year-old Tanner Edwards’ future looked uncertain, a rare disease would make his family search for someone to donate a kidney. That search ended with Tanner’s dad, Don, giving his so this Thanksgiving Tanner says he can’t be thankful for anything else.

Since the operation tanner has slowly seen his strength return, and his mom has even let him play a little touch football. The one thing she said she never expected is an outpouring of support from the community. The community also pitched in with a benefit to help the family ease the financial burden of paying for his transplant. It's a gesture they say has them already giving thanks. Now Tanner says that when he grows up he thinks he's wants to be a veterinarian, a way to care for animals, and a way he says he can give something to someone else and always remember just how truly thankful he is.
