Lawmakers Hammering Out Plan as O.T. Session Looms

House and Senate budget experts say there's still time for legislators to put together a spending plan before June 1.

Aides to Gov. Rod Blagojevich say they're hopeful they can persuade lawmakers to support the governor's pension reform plan and other key budget provisions, but some lawmakers say they're doubtful about the governor's plan.

It's also unclear how many lawmakers would go along with an expansion of casino gambling to raise revenue the governor is floating.

Republican Sen. Steve Rauschenberger says a budget can be drafted in 72 hours once lawmakers get an agreement.
