Some Rockford elementary schools lose their magnet school status. But school board members insist those schools will maintain their themes.

The Rockford School Board approved phasing out the magnet school concept at Dennis, Stiles, Haskell McIntosh and Washington elementary schools over the next two years.

There was concern about a lack of federal money next year. Board members also learned the magnet school are not attracting enough of a racial balance. The school board learned about the state test score numbers. Numbers 23 News told you about last week, indicating over half of the students are failing to meet minimum academic standards. The board also approved a plan to put sixth graders at the Rockford Environmental Science Academy in uniforms next year.

Superintendent Dr. Alan Brown will be delivering his State of the Schools address at the Ramada Suites.
