An overflow congregation of 300 people at a Winthrop Harbor church told stories and read poems Saturday morning in remembrance of nine-year-old Krystal Tobias.
Her body was found Monday morning along with her best friend, eight-year-old Laura Hobbs, at a park near their homes in Zion. Laura's father, Jerry Hobbs, has been charged with murdering the girls.
Prosecutors say Hobbs told them he was angry with his daughter because she defied his order that she return home. Krystal Tobias' brother, Alberto Segura, said after the service that his sister was buried with teddy bears and a stuffed bulldog, the mascot of her elementary school.
A service for Laura Hobbs is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
