A house fire on Monday leaves a Rockford family homeless for the holidays.
But thanks to the generosity of the community, the Blackburn family has not been left completely out in the cold this holiday season. The Salvation Army has put them up at the Sweden House in Rockford for the past three days. But the helping hands don't stop there.
Steve Blackburn says he's overwhelmed by the community support.
Steve, his wife, daughter and two grandchildren have been homeless since Monday when their home on East State Street went up in flames.
The family did have insurance. Steve says he received a check from the insurance company today. Now they can start to put their life back together piece by piece.
Christmas this year will not be the same, but the Blackburn family will make the most of it. After all, they say they have a lot to be thankful for: Everyone escaped from the blaze okay.
If you would like to make a donation to the Blackburn family you can do so at the Forest City Baptist Church at 4241 Pepper Drive in Rockford.
The Blackburn family would like to thank everyone who has donated so far.
