Hospital administrators say it's the first time they can remember a sexual assault complaint being filed.
A 31-year-old woman claims a 35-year-old male nurse sexually assaulted her on Dec. 4 as she was being cared for in a hospital patient room.
Hospital administrators say the male nurse has no criminal history, and that he is a registry employee, only working when there is a staff shortage or high amount of patients.
The hospital is conducting their own internal investigation. Rockford police are also working to interview staff members, and to determine if the allegations are accurate.
The male nurse has been suspended without pay from Swedish American Hospital. The hospital says further disciplinary action could be taken, pending the results of the investigation.
