Leaders of the Illinois Republican Party are expected to pick Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka as their new Party Chief.
Gary MacDougal will step aside as chairman to make way for Topinka. Topinka was the lone Republican to win statewide office on an election day that saw Democrats win control of the governor's office and the Legislature.
Her supporters hope Topinka can help the party reach out to women and minorities. If elected, Topinka would become the first female leader of either major party in Illinois history, and the third person to fill the GOP's chairmanship in an unusually rough year for the party.
The vote will take place Tuesday afternoon.
