More than 600 members of the 32nd "Red Arrow" Infantry Brigade of the Wisconsin National Guard are being mobilized and are to report for duty June 6.
Activated over the weekend for training and deployment overseas were soldiers in the 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry, which is based in Appleton and has companies in Ripon, Waupun, Green Bay, Fond du Lac and Marinette.
Plans call for the troops to spend several days at their armories after they report before shipping out to a mobilization station in New Jersey. Alert notices went to another 1,500 Army National Guard soldiers in five other units in Wisconsin to begin preparing for possible activation.
If called up, they would be on active duty for about 18 months, which could include as much as a year overseas.
