A warrant for the arrest of 24-year-old Loren Leoni has been issued. And as of now, she is not in police custody.

The Belvidere High School English teacher is charged with criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. District officials won't comment whether she's been fired, but students say she hasn't been in class since the last week of December. Around that time a report was filed with the Belvidere Police Department for Leoni "inappropriately" touching a 15-year-old student. There's a lot of mixed feelings about this amongst teachers, parents and their students.

"They're very harsh for the teacher. She's just starting out her career and it will ruin her. The children in class are very upset about it cause what I've heard she's a wonderful teacher," says B.H.S. parent Jennifer Vierck.

"I think it's terrible what happened. But it's unfortunate Belvidere High School has to wear the black veil of it," says B.H.S. senior Julie Campbell.

Bond is set at 50-thousand dollars. Winnebago County State's Attorney Phil Nicolosi says usually crimes with these charges have bond set at ten-thousand dollars. But since Leoni has family from outside the area, he wants to make sure she won't be a flight risk.

Nicolosi says he doesn't think Leoni has skipped town. She did grow up in Schaumburg, so police are looking for her around that area. Nicolosi also says he thinks Leoni just doesn't know about these charges or the warrant out for her arrest.
