Cutting Costs While Helping Others

With the holiday's fast approaching, communities are starting to look over charitable wish lists in an effort to help support local causes. Sunday night Cherry Vale Mall held a unique fundraiser to raise money for 30 non-profit organizations.

It was a night to catch up on holiday shopping while also filling the financial stockings of local charities. By purchasing a $5 wristband, shoppers were treated to a special night of giving by Cherry Vale Mall. Organizers say that this is an event that provides shoppers with special deals while providing a festive way to participate in community wide fundraising.

Special promotions included discounts and other attractive offers for customers wearing these charitable wristbands. Giving some a chance who have already made their holiday shopping lists to check them twice while visiting Santa to find out if they've been naughty or nice.

This event is the first of it's kind in Rockford. Nearly 4,000 wristbands were distributed by local charities, providing an early holiday gift for local not-for-profit service providers. Holiday sales are expected to be soft this year with the continued sluggish economy, so Sunday night’s special charitable event gave some retailers a jump on unloading some mounting inventories.

Nearly all of the malls retailers participated in this charitable fundraiser. Marshall Fields did not participate, saying, “their charitable arm can't extend to every event.” The event helped raise $20,000 for area charities.
