Illinois House Raise License Plate Fee

The Illinois House approved the increase Tuesday, 68 to 44. The legislation now goes to the Senate.

Republican Rep. Jim Sacia of Freeport says state police patrol cars are falling apart. He says the state's budget problems have kept the cars from being replaced quickly enough.

Sacia argues a small increase in the license plate fee is a reasonable way to provide more money, but critics question the wisdom of setting up a special fund to pay for one particular state expense.
