With gas prices through the roof, you might not notice a penny, but that's how much extra you'll start paying at the pump this Friday. That's when the annual state gas tax increase kicks in.
The total will be boosted from 32.1 cents a gallon to 32.9 cents. The federal government tacks on another 18 cents a gallon in taxes.
Gas prices hit a record high in Wisconsin last week at $2.19 cents a gallon. The national average is $2.05.
AAA Wisconsin spokesman Ernie Stetenfeld says Wisconsin's higher tab is due partly to one of the highest gas taxes in the nation.
Each April 1, the state gas tax is automatically adjusted for inflation.
