A Rochelle woman, who was convicted of killing her son four years ago, is seeking a new trial.
Eva Castro was sentenced in June 2001 to 48 years in prison for killing her 19-year-old son, Ricky Burton, on December 26, 1998, in their home.
During the 2001 trial, witnesses testified that Castro had talked about killing her son and making it look like a suicide.
Police say Burton was killed by a .22-caliber bullet fired from close range. Castro has repeatedly denied the killing.
She filed a petition for a new trial in Ogle County court. On Monday, a judge heard arguments from Ogle County prosecutors and Castro's attorney. Arguments are set to continue on April 28.
