CHICAGO (AP) -- Attorney General Lisa Madigan says her office has confirmed that more than 1,800 registered sex offenders in Illinois are on the MySpace Web site.
Madigan released a report on the social networking site yesterday as Myspace-dot-com announced its plan for a major overhaul of its site in an effort to combat sexual predators.
MySpace reached an agreement with Illinois and other states to add online protections and develop age-verification technology. The Web site is willing to accept independent monitoring and changes in the way the site is structured.
Madigan says she's become increasingly concerned that predators are taking advantage of sites like MySpace to stalk children. She says MySpace released the sex offender information in response to subpoenas from the AG's office in recent months.
