A 14-year-old girl remains in fair condition at a Rockford hospital after she was attacked by at least one pit bull on her way to school

The dog owners, Victor and Sara Marquez, who say that they were at work when their dog, Killer, attacked their daughter’s friend. They say it was a horrible accident that involved one dog and not four and they just hope 14-year-old Tiffany Mesch is OK.

The Marquez's are speaking out after their pit bull named Killer attacked 14-year-old Tiffany on her way to school.

“As soon as we found out we had the dog destroyed,” says Victor Marquez.

Authorities say that the pit bull attacked Mesch when she approached the Marquez's house to pick up their daughter for school. Neighbors say that they heard Mesch's screams for help, and came running.

According to the Marquez's the dogs were supposed to be locked in a kennel but apparently their daughters forgot to do so.

People who live in the neighborhood say that this isn't the first time thought that these dogs have attacked someone.

"It's not the first time and won't be the last,” comments neighbor Mike Gitchel.

Something the Marquez's dispute, “That's a lie.”

The Marquez’s say that they are picking up any medical bills the Meschs will incur from this attack, but they just want people to know, if they thought their dogs were vicious they would have gotten rid of them before.
