Superintendent Bill Mattingly says he's leaving to take a similar position as superintendent in the northern Illinois community of Oregon, southwest of Rockford. He says the opportunity was too good to pass up.
The Streator School Board approved his letter of resignation at its meeting Tuesday night.
School Board member Karen Ricca praised Mattingly for his work with the district's finances. He also was key in helping the district secure more than $20 million in state funding for its renovation and construction project.
