Two teen-age girls are fighting for the lives after a two car head-on crash on south Main Street Sunday night. Witnesses say they saw a Jeep swerving in and out of the north bound lane.
The four people in the jeep were ejected when the Jeep and a Plymouth met head on.
The Plymouth then caught on fire and witnesses used fire extinguishers to try to battle the blaze. Winnebago County Sheriff's Department says it doesn't appear as though speed or alcohol were factors.
It appears the driver of the Jeep went onto the shoulder of the road and over-corrected--crossing the centerline and hitting the Plymouth. The girls were passengers in the Jeep. A 16-year-old was flown to Madison with skull fractures and other broken bones. A 17-year-old is at St. Anthony Medical Center also with skull fractures.
The drivers of both vehicles and a 17-year-old boy suffered less serious injuries. The juvenile driver of the Jeep will be ticketed for crossing the centerline.
