Re-elected U.S. Senator Dick Durbin said the proposed expansion of Chicago's O'Hare International Airport may have a new wrinkle now that Republicans have control of the Senate. Durbin said Wednesday morning that he will fight as hard as he can for the project.
He has sponsored legislation intended to cement into federal law an agreement for a $6 billion expansion of O'Hare.
Durbin defeated Republican challenger Jim Durkin to win his second term in the Senate.
Durbin said he will work with Illinois' new Democratic governor-elect Rod Blagojevich.
The senator said Blagojevich has inherited a “real budgetary mess.” Durbin said he will try to bring federal funds home to Illinois.
