Road Project Funding

Cong. Don Manzullo is in the process of securing more than $8 million in transportation funding for the projects.

Two million dollars has been earmarked for the South Main Street Corridor Project and $2 million for the West Side Street reconstruction project in Rockford. The largest amount, $4 million, would be used to expand Route 20 between Freeport and Galena.

Other funds would be used for the Northern Illinois Commuter Rail Initiative and extending the Willow Creek Trail.

"More than 95 percent of the federal funding in this bill goes directly to states in the formula grants," said Congressman Don Manzullo. "When the time comes, I will work with our local officials to convince the state of Illinois to bring our fair share of that federal funding back to Northern Illinois to help these vital transportation projects."

The bill passed the House Transportation Committee and is headed for the full House next week.
