Another Confirmed Case of Mad Cow

The announcement comes just days after the United States said it will reopen its border to Canadian beef.

A dairy cow in Alberta tested positive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), confirming preliminary tests done earlier this week. The border was closed 19 months ago when a cow in northern Alberta was found to have mad cow disease which attacks the animals' nervous system.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday (12-29) that the border would be reopened and stood by that decision after being notified of the new Canadian case.
