State police are investigating whether a trooper who was recently cut from the governor's personal security team violated regulations by giving a civilian an official Illinois State Police patch.
The investigation started after Ryan Everist and his wife were pulled over December 12 near Decatur for speeding. State police spokesman Lincoln Hampton told the Chicago Tribune that Trooper Brad Kane noticed the cloth patch was placed in the car's windshield.
Kane asked about the patch, and Ryan Everist said they got it from Raul Perez, a state trooper who was transferred off Gov. Rod Blagojevich's detail this fall during an investigation of the governor's security team.
Hampton says state police are checking whether the Everist’s patch actually came from Perez.
