Another special session scheduled to deal with Illinois transit funding
CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois lawmakers are due back in Springfield to once again take up the transit funding issue.
Governor Rod Blagojevich called the special session, and he plans a morning news conference in Chicago before heading to the Statehouse. The governor wants legislators to pass a long-term funding plan for mass transit before the January 20 deadline.
That's when the Chicago Transit Authority, Metra and Pace say they'll have to increase fares, lay off workers and cut service if no permanent funding solution is reached.
