SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency says it cleaned up 120 illegal dump sites across the state in 2007.
The agency also says it has removed nearly 22,000 tons of illegally dumped waste. On the recycling side, the EPA says it has salvaged 445 tons of recyclable metal waste and about 275 tons of tires.
The efforts are part of the agency's state-wide Illinois Removes Illegal Dumps program. The program became law in 2005 and was launched in late 2006.
