Alan Beaman was convicted in 1995 of killing Illinois State University student Jennifer Lockmiller, who was strangled and stabbed in her apartment in Normal. Beaman is serving a 50-year prison sentence.
Beaman's high court hearing on January 15th will be argued by Karen Daniel of Northwestern University law school's Center on Wrongful Convictions.
Defense attorneys say jurors at Beaman's trial should have heard evidence about another man who could have killed Lockmiller.
They'll also argue jurors shouldn't have ruled Beaman drove the 130 miles from Rockford to Normal without detection.
