Above all other holidays, Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular days to pop the question, but after that perfect proposal, this day of love is also a very popular day for a wedding.
A total of 13 couples were going to the “Chapel of Love.” On this Valentine's Day that chapel was the Winnebago County Courthouse.
One couple from Poland exchanged their vows. They tell 23 News that by tying the knot on this day they will never be able to forget their anniversary date.
The Winnebago County Courthouse was filled with bouquets, marriage documents, families, and lots of love. One couple says they have been trying for years and years to tie the knot on Valentine's Day but have never been able to make it to the alter.
Sheila and Herbet Porter, who just got married, say, “We’ve been together for 12 years. Every year we try to make it to get married. We finally did it this year.”
Another newlywed couple, Rhonda and Everett Foster, say, “What a better day to do it. She means the world to me. That’s what this day is about being with the one you want to love forever.”
The Winnebago County Courthouse says 13 weddings is way more than they would normally have on a Monday, but in the past about 20 couples chose Valentine’s Day to say "I do."
According to the United States Census Bureau about 2.2 million marriages take place annually in the United States. That's about 6,000 a day.
