Illinois State Pitcher Steroid Use

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -- The new report on steroids in Major League Baseball is even causing ripples at Illinois State University in Normal.

One of the players mentioned in the report released yesterday was former Illinois State pitcher Matt Herges (her-jess), who allegedly purchased Human Growth Hormone from trainer Kirk Radomski.

Page 222 of the report shows a copy of a check from Herges made out to Radomski in November 2005 for more than $3,200, which Radomski claims was payment for two kits of HGH.

Herges lettered at Illinois State from 1990 to 1992. He broke into the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers at age 29 in 1999. He's also pitched with the Expos, Padres, Giants, Marlins, Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies.
