Dixon, Hometown of Ronald Reagan

On the day that his commemorative stamp is dedicated, it is a bit ironic to find out who started the initiative to preserve Ronald Reagan’s history in his home town of Dixon. It was the mailman.

A local mailman saw that the boyhood home of Reagan was up for sale and started to raise money. Since then the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home Foundation has made many improvements to the former president's old house, and more recently the school he attended.

Near the main entrance of the school stands a six-foot portrait of Ronald Reagan made out of his favorite food, jelly beans. The mayor of Dixon, Jim Burke, says that the citizens have always felt close to Reagan, but until his death outsiders were not aware of the cities connection.

With the dedication of the new stamp there is little doubt fans of "The Great Communicator" will continue to come to Dixon.
