Picking Up Costs

Unseasonable winters and springs are adding up for you apple lovers. Over the last several months the weather in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin has been tough on apple orchards meaning prices are up.

Edward's Apple Orchard says the early spring weather kept bees from pollinating blossoms so the crop isn't as big as they would have liked. Other orchards got hit by a may frost followed by a lot of hot, dry weather which stunted the growth of the remaining apples.

Some orchards that allow people to pick their own apples have already closed for the season. Others are open, but they let people come in and pick apples just a few hours on weekends.

Edwards says they are not planning on limiting any picking times.
