The increase approved at a meeting in Chicago Thursday raises base tuition for incoming undergraduate students in Urbana-Champaign to $7,042 for the academic year.
New students in Springfield will pay $4,572, while students at UIC would pay $6,194.
The rate for current freshmen is fixed for four years under state law, so they won't see a change, but other students will see tuition go up by between $112 and $211 per semester, depending on which campus they attend.
The increases take effect in July, and the university says they'll generate about $29 million in revenue.
