A nine-year-old boy from the state of Washington is dead after the pick-up camper he was sleeping in caught fire on I-90 early Thursday morning.
Nine-year-old Daniel Hinson died in the fire. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Police say the father and his two sons had pulled off on the Rockton road exit ramp to sleep. About 3:30 a.m. or 4 a.m. morning, the fire started and the father and the eldest son was able to get out safely.
Apparently there was ammunition on board. As the fire burned, there were small explosions and blasts while firefighters tried to put out the fire. Fire investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the deadly fire.
