Back in January Shareef plead not guilty. Today the 23 year old told a Chicago judge about his plan to commit jihad at CherryVale Mall. He pled guilty to one count of using weapons of mass destruction. He admitted to planning to put hand grenades in garbage cans at the mall around Christmas time.
He was arrested when he tried to buy the grenades from a federal agent. With this guilty plea, Shareef could face a minimum of 20 years in prison and a maximum life sentence.
23 News Anchor Nichole Vrsansky was in Chicago today when Shareef changed his plea, she'll have more tonight on the 23 News at 5pm.
