One unit we welcomed home in July is being honored at a special ceremony Sunday. Members of the 333rd Military Police Unit will be presented with many awards for their service in Iraq.
The Freeport-based unit will be presented with an encased American flag, a commemorative coin, certificate of appreciation and a lapel pin. Their family members will also be honored at the event which takes place at the Freeport Armory at 2 p.m.
The Illinois National Guard unit was called to active duty in February 2003 to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldiers served in Iraq for more than a year, providing security and performing other duties in support of the war effort.
