Lawmakers Return to End Old Session, Launch New One

After that, new lawmakers will be sworn in and the 94th General Assembly will begin, changing the legislative landscape a bit.

Some lame-duck lawmakers will be replaced, and Democrats will have slightly smaller majorities in each chamber, and the change means legislation now in position to pass quickly will go back to the starting line.

Before that happens, Democratic leaders hope to call a vote on electing circuit judges from new "sub-circuits,” something now done only in Cook County. The smaller districts would be created in Lake, McHenry, Will, Kane, Winnebago and Boone Counties, with DeKalb and Kendall Counties a possibility, too.
