A victim was shot in the leg at 7825 Elm Street. He was then taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital and was treated and released.

The suspect, Rick Kuehne, then held himself hostage inside the home. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department, Machesney and Loves Park police surrounded the home and other blocked off certain entrances to the neighborhood.

The county's SWAT Team and a hostage negotiator were also brought in. The negotiator finally was able to talk the Kuehne out of the house. Kuehne's family was also brought in to help calm him during a very intense situation.

Winnebago County Sheriff Richard Myers says, “The subject was barricaded so the best thing we can do is talk to him. That is what a negotiator does. Sometimes in a situation like this we would have had to use force but this came to a peaceful end without incident. This actually went really well.”

Sheriff Myers says the shooting before the standoff appears to be drug related.
