Rockford schools kicked off its Lights On After School program.
The campaign encourages educators, parents and residents to rally for after school programs and raise awareness of the needs for greater resources for such programs, while the need continues to grow.
Some 15 million children have no place to go after school and that can lead to serious problems.
The Rockford Rocks Reading program is one after school program available at 11 sites. Students get after school help with homework, and participate in other educational activities.
