On Tuesday, the Winnebago County board will vote on a plan that would vacuum leaves off yards in parts around Rockford and Loves Park. The Winnebago County Highway department would blow the leaves with costs expected at around $40,000. After the leaf burning ban in 2003, Winnebago County board chair Scott Christiansen thinks the plan would be a good way to dispose leave piles without any flames. It would take months to take care of leave piles in populated neighborhoods between fall road projects and the winter snow plows.
The leaf sweeping issue comes before the full county board this Tuesday.
