Here in the stateline, early November means many current projects are finished up or nearing completion.

But even though 2004 projects are wrapped up, in the weeks ahead local lawmakers will fight hard downstate for 2005 projects and beyond.

This week lawmakers will again head to Springfield for the fall veto session.

Locally, road projects will be a top priority. Local representatives will push for funding for three key road projects:

  • The expansion of rapidly growing Illinois 173
  • The widening of Illinois 2 coming in from Dixon through Rockford
  • The re-paving and beautification of West State Street

Though the projects will combine for a multi-million dollar price tag, local reps are optimistic the state's leaders will come to Rockford’s aid.

"That’s our responsibility as legislators to make sure we are getting the bacon to bring back to Rockford. That's what we'll continue to do, we'll fight for those projects to make sure Rockford is getting their fair share," State Rep. Chuck Jefferson explains.
