CHICAGO (AP) -- The mother of a former police officer who's suspected in the disappearance of his fourth wife contends the woman ran off with another man and is alive.
Betty Morphey told the Chicago Sun-Times that her son, Drew Peterson, would never hurt anyone at any time. And Morphey adds that she's proud of him and feels bad because of everything he's had to go through.
He's denied any involvement in her disappearance.
The investigation into her case has caused prosecutors to reopen the investigation into the death of Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio, whose body was found in a bathtub in 2004.
